About Us

Sla is a modern hostel nestled in the center of Phnom Penh that offers a place for travelers a place to unwind and meet people in a community environment.

“Sla” is the Khmer word for the “areca catechu” or “areca betal palm.” In Cambodia, sla flowers are often used in wedding ceremonies to dignify the bond between the man and wife. When the flowers are thrown on the bride and groom, the thrower is wishing the newlyweds long life and happiness in matrimony. Here at SLA, we take that tradition a step further and wish to bestow happiness in your travels!

Our SLA team is excited to show you our Khmer hospitality by taking great care to bring you a clean, fun and friendly environment.

We are open 24/7 with 7 front desk staff members – Mara, Mary, Sreybo, Kannitha, Menghuy, Ngeab and Sochan. We have Sokun and Thierry tending our bar and Theara, Thol and Eline forming the core housekeeping team to keep our place spotless and clean.

Here at SLA, our staff is like our family. All service charges goes back to the staff.

Our Uniquenesses

We have a “no shoes” policy inside our hostel. When entering the premise, guests are asked to remove their shoes to show respect for our Cambodian culture. Please ask our front desk for a plastic bag to store your shoes.

Our hostel uses solar water heater as a means to conserve the electricity and to be more environmentally conscious.

Free WIFI, kitchen facilities, and TV are available in the communal area.

For our signature drinks, we only use locally sourced pandan leaves (sleuk tauy), pickled lime and tamarind (ampil).

Pandan leaves are used in Khmer cooking for their distinctive aroma and coloring in food. It can often be dried and used as tea. Here at Sla, we bring sleuk tauy tea to you.

Ampil, aka tamarind, is a common fruit found in our local markets. Khmers like to add ripened ampil into soups and stir fries as a souring agent instead of lime juice or vinegar. Ampil is rich in minerals, vitamins and antioxidants, which helps the body feel refreshed and energized. Please ask one of our friendly bartenders to add ampil to your drink.
